Xbox 360: Developers Choice

A recent two page article by Game Informer showed some interesting information, from the development community's perspective. The big question was, what is the console, mobile, or computing platform you are most interested in developing for. Here are the results: Xbox 360- 37% Nintendo Wii- 32% PS3- 16% PC- 5% Nintendo DS- 5% PSP- 5% This shows how much Microsoft has made up ground in the development world. The Wii was also impressive with 32%, twice the amount of "excitement" the PS3 received. Other questions were as followed: Are you(developer) excited about the Wii?: Yes- 77% No- 23% How hard will it be to port a game to the Wii?: Hard- 67% Not so bad- 33% Easy- 0% Is the PS3 too expensive?: Yes- 63% No- 37% How would you rate the PS3 Dev Kit?: Good- 20% Average- 60% Bad- 20% Did Nintendo's Dual Screen make you more interested to develop for it?: Yes- 38% No- 62% There were also two highlighted Q and A shown: Q: Will more development time yield better games with the PS3? A: No. For some reason I am feeling like the Saturn all over again. Q: Does the success of consoles mean the end of the PC market? A: Not as long as World of Warcraft is out there. I don't think we will ever see the PC market die. Again every poll and comment was compiled from pages 12 and 13 of Game Informer Magazine, July 2006. Supraman84

crap....hmm.

I think this article and the results are very interesting. Knowing what all the developers REALLY think is an eye-opener, and indicative of changing allegiances that could make or break a console, like the ps1-n64 or the ps2-Dreamcast-xbox battle showed. Especially cross-platform developers who always tend to only say glowing things about all the consoles during E3 and other gaming exhibitions.

I agree with gg.

That post was a real eye-opener in terms of giving the perspective of the people who actually create the games we play. I was actually really surprised that PS3 didnt get much credit, and that 360 seemed to be the popular choice. Could it be that 360 is the easiest system to develop for, and that is whats drwaing in so many new exclusive IP's?

Yes, it seems that the 360 has become the standard of ease of developmetn while the Wii is more open to new ideas.
