Nintendo Press Release Sparks Wii Release Date Speculation

Oh man when you thought Nintendo could torture you know longer they give the ultimate torture. Nintendo released a press release today concerning game releases and left a strange message in there. The message was saying that the Wii release date was encoded in their and that you needed to figure it out to find out what the release date was. Ahaha Bungie and Nintendo are very similar in these kinda thing eh. Well let me show you the press release then I'll show some speculation that put the date on quite an odd date none of use would have speculated. The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wii™ home video game system. But that’s not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it’s all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two. As the weather cools down, the Nintendo portable game offerings heat up. FINAL FANTASY® V ADVANCE makes its way to Game Boy® Advance SP on Nov. 6. As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies. FINAL FANTASY loyalists will enjoy an opportunity to debate which installment was best. Nintendo DS™ owners are the big winners. Every week or so, another huge DS title hits, from the Touch Generations title Clubhouse Games™ to fan favorites like Elite Beat Agents™ and Yoshi’s Island™ 2. Clearly a gamer’s idea of paradise, here is Nintendo’s upcoming DS lineup: Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games™ Oct. 16: Nintendogs™ (Dalmatian) Oct. 23: Magical Starsign™ Oct. 30: Pokémon® Ranger Oct. 30: Children of Mana® Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents™ Nov. 13: Yoshi’s Island™ 2Dec. 4: Custom Robo™ Arena Dec. 4: Kirby™Squeak Squad And, for Nintendo GameCube™ owners, The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess will be available for you this fall. An enhanced version also will be a launch title for Wii. That will all happen on … Oh look, we’re out of space. Ah some interesting stuff now over at Joystiq they posted this speculation that put the date on October 2. The fourth quarter begins on October 1. Now look at the list. At least one game is released every Monday in the fourth quarter except for the following dates: October 2, November 20 and November 27. November 27 is after Black Friday, so it’s out. November 20 is after the launch of the PS3, so that’s out too. That leaves us with October 2. The Wii will launch on October 2. Ah very interesting way of looking at it. Now over at codename revolution they have some speculation concerning the same thing that puts it on the exact date at Joystiq which makes us all wonder is October 2, 2006 going to be the official release date. Check out their speculation: Here is a crazy theory behind this date I’ve read a few times before on message boards but it basically goes like this: If you take the Wii and ‘convert’ it to Roman Numerals in such a way that it looks like “VVII” you get 552 which means that since two V’s don’t go together you take the sum which becomes 10 (the month) and you leave the 2 on it’s own (the date) which concludes that the Wii launch date is indeed October 2nd. Ah very weird way indeed looking at it. But also very creative. Never would have thought of it like that. Anyways that's just a few speculation. If you can look at the press release and try to decode make sure to put your findings in the comments and if it's good I'll even update the post and put it in there. So get out your decoder rings and let's go haha. UPDATE: Over at Falefelkid's site he has gone over this entire ranging from everything to try to figure out a release date but came up with nothing. But he found on another site a dude called Jimmybald came up with an interesting theory. Check it out: Now, when you look at it, there may or may not be clues hidden in the text above.but... 1.Wii™ 2.Nintendo DS™ 3.Clubhouse Games™ 4.Elite Beat Agents™ 5.Yoshi's Island™ 6.Nintendogs™ 7.Magical Starsign™ 8.Custom Robo™ 9.Kirby™ 10.Nintendo GameCube™ What do all these things have in common. EACH HAVE A ™ beside it. Ten in total when not counting the repeated words. So the tenth month is October. Now... 1.FINAL FANTASY® 2.Game Boy® 3.Pokémon® 4.Children of Mana® 5.The Legend of Zelda®: There is 5 ®'s. We know Wii will launch in 2006, so ??.??.06Now, its 10.05.06 Ah another interesting way of look at it as they put it on the 5th. Obviously most people are solving the riddle to be early October timeframe. This is always a possibility and I wouldn't be surprised. I'll post anymore ideas that arise aren remember if you have any I'll put that up. Press Release Joystiq Speculation Codename Revolution Speculation Falafelkid's Speculation Zucas

The Wii launch date of October 2 seems the best bet. Interesting to note that it potentially coincides with Gears of War release too.

Interesting. Though neither should affect the massive sales of the other.

Man, what's with Gaming companies? It's become some big trend now to milk every drop of excitement out of every announcement. Mark Rein at Epic with the "BIG announcement next week" about Gears of War. Xbox360 originally with their little tree and rabbit site that hid the mystery of the launch date. Nintendo now with all these word games and hidden meanings. Halo 3 with teasers. Etc Etc.

When will this overdone trend end? Where a company just holds a press conference and says....."we're releasing (title/console) on such and such date" like months away so people have a Countdown calender which is more exciting than dragging it out like it's some CIA freaking mystery.
